Sean Hutchinson
Sean Hutchinson is a native Seattleite and a hell of a nice guy. He began banging on pots and pans as soon as he could hold them and naturally gravitated to the drums. He plays jazz, rock, electronic music, a mean train beat, and whatever else he can get himself into.
Sean is at the forefront of a new generation of drummers without borders, incorporating tabla, djembe, frame drums, loops, effects, and even unique inventions of scrap metal into his eclectic setup. His playing is at once inventive and selfless, employing a sensitive touch, keen ears, and a percussionist's perspective to serve each musical moment appropriately. He brings a compositional approach to the drums and marries a jazz sensibility with an arsenal of beats drawn from electronica, rock, hip-hop, and world musics.
In his burgeoning career, Sean has performed with Jazz luminaries such as Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, Paquito D'Rivera, Alan Pasqua, John Clayton, Tom Scott, Eddie Daniels, Michael Cain, Shelly Berg, Uri Caine, Tierney Suttonand a diverse array of other artists including Warren Haynes (Alman Brother Band,) Aaron and Ivan Neville (Neville Brothers,) George Porter (the Meters,) Michael Shrieve (Santana,) Jerry Harison (Talking Heads,) Karl Denson, and Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck.)
Current musical happenings include New York-based jazz projects Still Life, the Here and Now, and the Bridget Kearney Trio; Austrian Composer Johannes Berauer's Tiny Orchestra; and a vigorous national touring schedule with San Francisco Jam-Rock Quintet, New Monsoon.
Sean resides in Brooklyn, NY
